Department of Shalya Tantra

Shalyatantra, a vital component of Ashtanga Ayurveda, encompasses surgical knowledge and procedures that have been refined over thousands of years. The term “Shalya” refers to the removal of foreign bodies or factors causing pain and distress to the body and mind. Pioneered by the legendary Sushruta, Shalyatantra reached its zenith in medieval India, earning the era the title of “The Golden Age of Surgery.” Today, this department extends its scope to include Orthopedics, Surgery, and Para-surgical techniques. Our focus is on imparting comprehensive knowledge to students, covering surgical diseases, disabilities, deformities, traumas, fractures, and congenital and acquired illnesses, thereby equipping them with the expertise to excel in their field.

Propagating the techniques of Classical Shalyatantra with global standards by integrative education to Ayurveda health service providers for the achievement of skilful and competent surgical care to our society.
